Welcome to an exciting fox weekend for experienced fox dancers who want to continue developing their dance. The weekend offers advanced-level classes in the mornings and afternoons, as well as social dancing on Saturday evening.
Saturday’s social dance is included in the price for those attending the classes. It is also possible to join the Saturday dance only, without taking classes. See the Facebook event.
What will we learn in this course?
All living dances evolve over time, and this evolution often happens when a new generation of dancers challenges established traditions. New ideas are explored and pushed to their limits. After a while, however, the pendulum tends to swing back, and we rediscover that earlier solutions and principles have stood the test of time for a reason. At its best, this leads to an inspiring synthesis of the new and the time-tested.
Fox, in a similar way, emerged as a reaction to traditional foxtrot, which many experienced as too structured and extroverted in its competitive form (slowfox and quickstep), and at the same time too limited in its simplified social version.
Fox dancers often strive for a dance that is more varied, musical, comfortable, and beautiful. At the same time, many feel it is difficult to move beyond a certain plateau in their development. Even though the motto has long been “anything goes in fox,” it can in practice be challenging to vary and deepen one’s dancing in a meaningful way. The sense of flow, freedom, musicality, and connection with one’s partner that many seek is not always easy to achieve on a typical social dance floor when certain pieces are missing.
As a result, many experienced dancers today have begun looking for answers in other, older dances, such as tango and traditional foxtrot. The pendulum has swung back.
From our perspective, generations of dancers have strived for similar qualities across all partner dances, and fox has much to gain from drawing on this existing knowledge. Solid technique, clear and responsive communication, developed musicality, a broad repertoire of steps, and expressive aesthetics are central aspects of all dance.
In our courses, we therefore work on all of these dimensions in parallel, to avoid the development plateaus that easily arise when certain aspects are neglected. By mastering several dances themselves, our teachers can draw inspiration from different styles and traditions, offering fox classes that make a real difference.
During the course, we work with both new, practical fox figures and the technique, leading, musicality, and expressive variations that make the dance more vibrant, enjoyable, and personal—while preserving the unique character of fox.
Our ambition is to have the same number of men and women in the courses. Therefore we will give priority to those who sign up in couples (This does not apply to solo dances like Street, Flamenco or Jazz).
But it is also alright to sign up alone. During the classes we will change dance partners all the time.
Please fill in all the fields in the form below. Please send a separate form for your partner.
