Weekend - Tango Fox
Welcome to a unique fox weekend for those of you who are experienced fox dancers and want to continue developing your dancing with inspiration from Argentine tango. The weekend offers exciting dance classes in the morning and afternoon, as well as a unique social dance on Saturday evening!
Saturday’s social dance is included in the price for those attending the classes. It is also possible to come only for the Saturday dance without taking classes. See the Facebook event.
Why tango-fox?
All living dances evolve over time, and this evolution often happens when a new generation of dancers rebels against what is established. New ideas are tested and pushed to their limits. After a while, however, the pendulum swings back, and we rediscover that earlier solutions and principles have stood the test of time for a reason. At its best, this leads to an exciting synthesis between the new and the proven.
Fox emerged in a similar way as a reaction against traditional foxtrot, which many experienced as too rigid and extroverted in its competitive form (slowfox and quickstep), and at the same time too limited in its simpler social form.
Many fox dancers want to dance with more variety, musicality, comfort, and beauty. At the same time, many feel that it is difficult to develop their dancing beyond a certain plateau. Even though the motto has long been that “anything goes in fox,” it can in practice be difficult to vary and deepen one’s dancing in a meaningful way. The sense of flow, freedom, musicality, and connection with one’s partner that many are searching for is not always easy to achieve on a regular dance floor if certain pieces of the puzzle are missing.
As a result, many experienced dancers today have started looking for answers in other, older dances, such as Argentine tango. The pendulum has swung back!
What will we learn in the course?
The same search for greater variation and quality has also existed in other partner dances like tango. Over the years, important keys have been developed—such as solid technique, clear and responsive communication, and an exciting repertoire of steps—that make the dance musical, expressive, and enjoyable.
But while much is similar between fox and tango, there are also many differences. Each dance has its own character, and the challenge is to learn from other dances without compromising the character of fox.
The weekend workshops are led by Ehsan Shariati, who has taught both tango and fox for many years and can therefore integrate elements from tango into fox in a way that works well. This makes the weekend a truly valuable opportunity for fox dancers who are curious about tango!
