Bugg, Waltz & Foxtrot - 1 Beginners
This class is suitable for those new to Bugg, Walz ad Foxtrot or who have been trying to learn them without proper, regulare teaching.
Why do we learn three dances in one course?
While Walz usually is limited to formal romantic settings such as weddings and ballrooms
you can frankly dance bugg and foxtrot at any festive occasion and to most styles of popular music.
Bugg is perhaps the most popular Swedish dance
and has its origins in Boogie Woogie. Usually we dance bugg to faster music and foxtrot to the slower songs. On a typical
dance evening you will need to know both dances.
On the other hand there are so many similarities between foxtrot and waltz that you can save time learning both at the same time.
By learning all the three dances in the same course you can be sure that you will be able to dance to any tune that is played at your next party!
Which styles?
All dances change with time and usual gain more movements and become more comfortable and pleasing to
watch. In the last decade or two bugg and foxtrot have gone through an impressive development
resulting in a few new styles.
In this course we will learn the newest style in bugg which is now the common one in Uppsala and more
and more places in Sweden. If you have only danced the old style of bugg you are welcome to "update" your
skills at this course. It usually takes a few lessons.
Foxtrot can be danced in the classical style (resembling waltz) with a beautiful expanded posture,
precise polished steps and flowing rise and falls or as a more intimate social dance with improvised movements and
an expression unique for each dancer, the so called "Fox" or "Social foxtrot". We consider both styles dialects of the same dance and at this
beginners course we will focus mostly on the things that are common in both styles. Our ambition is to combine the technical skills of competition dancing
with the improvisational skills of the social dance floor silver foxes.
How much will I learn in one semster?
Learning how to dance is like learning a musical instrument. It takes years to bring the skills to perfection
but you can feel the joys of dancing already after the first lesson. By the end of the course most students
feel that they can have a good time at any dance floor and we put that to test at the end of the semester
when the whole class visits a dance club together. Some students are happy with this level but most would
like to keep learning more.
But you don't need to wait till the end of the course to try your wings. You can keep dancing and having fun right after your lessons
at the ¡Chill out!
Dancing for us is a life long journey dotted with mostly happy and beautiful memories. We hope that we can give you
a fun and efficient start to your voyage.
